Where’d Everybody Go? Why Visitors Bounce From Your Website

Did you know most visitors to your website stay less than 1 minute?

That means you need to grab their attention right from the very beginning – according to the Nielsen Norman Group you have less than 59 seconds to do so.

How can you tell if visitors are leaving your site?

Using google analytics or another web tracking tool you can check your site’s bounce rate. If it’s high visitors are coming to your site and quickly leaving – clearly, there must be a problem.

Why would they leave?

The Daily Egg discusses the top 5 reasons visitors leave your site.

  1. Visitors leave when they don’t get what they expect – make sure your site is showcasing who you are and what you do.
  2. Visitors leave when your site isn’t usable – whether it’s constantly crashing, cluttered and hard to read or difficult to navigate, visitors want a site that is easy to use.
  3. Visitors leave your site when they don’t know what to do – content is important but it doesn’t all need to be right there on the homepage. Navigation should be both obvious and intuitive.
  4. Visitors leave your site if they think you’re not being genuine – utilize trust building tools to help reassure visitors.
  5. Visitors leave your site when it fails to impress or inspire – when visitors come to your site they’re asking “what’s in it for me?” Make sure the answer to that is clear.

The Daily Egg recommends keeping your site user-friendly, simple, uncluttered and visually appealing. For more tips and insights you can find the full article here.
