The origin of the candy cane isn’t exactly clear.
Some say the candy cane was invented in Germany over 250 years ago. The legend says at the time, the white “sugar sticks” were created to keep children quiet in church.
The stripe and hook in the candy showed up in the early 1900s and the look and shape have remained for the classic candy cane. Today you can get candy canes in almost every size shape and color imaginable! Many candy makers from Jolly Rancher to Starbust have created their own versions.
