Life After Lockdown

Many Americans, as non-essential workers, have been in lock-down for months. As states ease restrictions, some are heading back to work, and others may be venturing out more.

Whatever your current situation, as you re-enter the world in small doses, consider taking a hard look at how your life changed during the pandemic. Did you break old habits? Form new ones?

A recent piece from Success magazine shares 10 Habits to Avoid After Lockdown.

They point out that the best time to kick a habit or start a new one can be while one is on vacation. It’s much easier to adopt a new habit when you’ve removed yourself from your existing patterns.

As we emerge from lockdown, they suggest avoiding:

  1. Living on autopilot
  2. Workaholism
  3. Being self-focused
  4. Tolerating low-value tasks
  5. Negativity
  6. Procrastination
  7. Taking it for granted
  8. Taking it too seriously
  9. Wasteful spending
  10. Being apolitical (wait, what? Seriously. They discuss the need to be informed and engaged in the world around you. Participate. Become involved).

Once you’ve done the hard work of breaking those trusty old bad habits, there are new, healthier habits you can take on such as:

  • Sanity activities
  • Relationship boosters
  • Physical activity
  • Friendship
  • Spontaneous adventure

The pandemic has changed things for all of us. Think back to your life in January – and look at it now. The pandemic picked up life as we knew it – shook it up real good – and tossed it. This is the perfect opportunity to pick it up, dust it off, and create something better to move forward.
